Increase Website
Traffic:
5 Tips To Increase Website Traffic
by: Kevin A. Koop
While there are many ways to approach Internet
Marketing, one topic is common to them all. Whether
you sell goods or services from your own website,
are involved in Affiliate Marketing or conduct your
business on ebay, you need website traffic to
thrive.
There are literally hundreds of different ways to
increase website traffic but in this article, we'll
discuss five solid tactics to bring more visitors to
your site or auction listing.
1. Improve your site's SEO (Search Engine
Optimization).
Sure, this can seem a
bit daunting at first but it really shouldn't be. No
one was born with an inherent knowledge of Google's
search engine algorithms. All SEO
Consultants/Webmasters started just like you (& me)…
They studied from those who seemed to have a pretty
good handle on the subject and then they tweaked and
tested things until they got the results they were
after.
Here are some of the basics: SEO is primarily broken
down into two categories… Onsite optimization
(meaning things you do to your website to make
search engines like you more) and Offsite
optimization (meaning things that are done "offsite"
to make search engines like you more).
Onsite tips: Make sure your "Title Tag" of your
pages is optimized for the content the page contains
and for search terms which are actually being
searched upon. Some good keyword research will go a
long way here.
Offsite tips: Try to get as many quality "one-way"
anchor-text links pointing to your site and vary the
anchor link text. A few links coming from relevant
sites with decent pagerank (say PR 3-6) will do
wonders for your SEO.
SEO Factoids: In case you didn't already know it…
Your website is not ranked as a whole; rather each
page is ranked individually for a certain keyword
phrase. These results are referred to as the SERPs
(Search Engine Result Pages).
Also, you "compete" with other web pages for ranking
on any given term so if you want to know how to get
on the front page of Google for a specific term,
spend some time analyzing the current top ten
listings to see what they're doing and gain ideas on
how to out-do them.
For more information I highly recommend an ebook
entitled the
VEO Report by Colin McDougall. I know Colin
personally, and highly recommend anything (&
everything) that he puts out in the way of SEO.
The ebook is certainly not cheap but it contains
solid (& tested) information from someone who makes
a lot of money online following his own advice. If
you want fluff, there's plenty out there. If you
want real world SEO advice from someone who
practices what he preaches, then the
VEO Report is just the ticket!
2. Article Marketing
This is one of my personal areas of expertise and
while it does take some effort… you can certainly
increase website traffic and improve your site's
offsite optimization at the same time.
Basically, you want to write articles that are of
interest to your target market and then spread them
around the internet to gain as much exposure as
possible.
Here are some tips:
Do some
keyword research before writing your article
title. In order to get search engine traffic to your
article, you need to ensure that your article title
contains keyword phrases that are being searched
upon. If you look at the title for this article
you'll see exactly what I'm talking about… I didn't
come up with the phrase "Increase Website Traffic"
out of thin air. Keyword research told me that a lot
of searches are being conducted on this term (also
called a keyword phrase).
Give valuable content to your reader and make sure
you repeat the main keyword phrase (located in your
title) a number of times while keeping the article
enjoyable to read.
Lastly, and this is key, make sure you include a
link to your website in the Author's Bio Box (also
called the Resource Box) and give them a
call-to-action and a reason to visit.
Your call-to-action can be subtle like, "Visit my
site at:" or more forward like "Click Here to go to
my site." Just make sure to include a call-to-action
and give them an incentive to click on your link!
(i.e. something for Free!)
I strongly suggest all Article Marketers create a
free informational report that can be given away in
exchange for a visitors name and email address. This
is effective and will quickly help you to build a
list of those interested in your particular niche.
3. Forum Marketing
You probably will not see a huge surge of website
traffic from this technique but it works none the
less.
Find several forums that cater to your target market
and take part in the conversations going on from
time to time.
Make sure you offer valuable information in your
forum posts and check the forum's policies to ensure
they allow you to include an outgoing link in your
Sig File (Signature File).
At the end of each comment you make, simply attach
your Sig File. Done properly,
forum marketing traffic tends to convert really
well and the inbound links can help improve your
offsite SEO as well.
4. Blogging
There are a number of ways you can get traffic from
Blogging. First, you could operate your own blog
and ensure that each new post notifies the search
engines of the new content. Search engines love good
content and they love many blog platforms (like
Wordpress).
Secondly, you could get more website traffic by
posting in others blogs. This is similar to the
forum posting technique previously mentioned… Make
sure you know the policies of the blog before
posting and offer valuable comments… don't just spam
an advertisement to a blog or forum, that won't
bring you anything but headaches.
5. Use eBay To Drive Website Traffic
(This isn't a complete secret but there's very few
doing this effectively)
Ebay is one of the most trafficked sites on the
internet and it's primarily trafficked by buyers…
this is great news for anyone who's selling online.
Here are some tips:
Sell something small that is related to your more
expensive products and then let your customers know
of your other offerings via follow up emails.
If you sell a digital good, make sure your website
URL is prominently displayed on the ecover of the
digital product so all auction visitors can
potentially become website visitors.
Consider using ebay's new "Classified" ads. You can
place a 30 day ad on ebay for under $10 and you can
advertise the products and services you offer at
your website. The rules for "Classified" ads are
much more flexible than those for auctions so you
can include direct links to your website and even
affiliate banners if you'd like.
Because of the
massive traffic on ebay, it's possible to get
200 or more unique visitors to your ebay Classified
ad in 30 days. This works out to 5 cents per
visitor!
Try doing that for most keywords when advertising on
Google Adwords!
If you'd like to get
more visitors to your auction listing, then listen
up. Most ebayers are completely unaware that
their auction listing will frequently be picked up
and displayed in the regular organic search
listings.
If you'd like to
increase your chances of this happening then you
only need to do some keyword research to find out
what search terms are being used to find the product
your listing and then include the term in your
auction listing.
This will increase the
amount of traffic you receive on ebay and in the
search engines as more than 80% of all ebay auctions
are found by those using ebay's search feature.
Well, there you have it… Five techniques (of the
hundreds) that you can use to increase website
traffic without having to break the bank.
Getting more website traffic isn't as hard as some
would have you to believe… it just takes some effort
and a solid plan.
